New Delhi: The Union ministry for tribal affairs has decided to launch the National Resource Centre for Tribal Livelihood from Orissa’s capital Bhubaneswar December 22.
The launch, which will also see the unveiling of the centre’s website and e-knowledge platform on tribal livelihood, will be presided over by Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram.
Christened ‘Vanjeevan’, the resource centre is the joint effort of the ministry, National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The launch is likely to be followed up by a workshop on skill development and entrepreneurship in tribal areas, livelihood mapping, skill gap analysis, farm, non farm and forest based and skill and enterprise promotion in farm and forest-based livelihood December 23. The two-day event will see several eminent experts and senior Central as well as state government officials taking part.
Former Union tribal secretary Hrusikesh Panda and former Planning Commission secretary NC Saxena will also attend the workshop.
‘Vanjeevan’ has been envisioned as a programme to identify problems related to livelihood issues in select districts of six states having low Human Development Index of tribals. The states are Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa and Telangana.
In the second phase the programme will be implemented in Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and Tripura.
