Bhubaneswar: The nationwide two-day strike by over 10lakh bank employees seeking wage revision has affected the banking operations hereWednesday. Around 40, 000 staff of different banks joined the strike on its first day to press demands including salary hike.
Around 85,000 bank branches remain closed for two days. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), the All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), the Bank Employees’ Federation of India (BEFI), the Indian National Bank Employees’ Federation (INBEF), the Indian National Bank Officers’ Congress (INBOC), the National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) and the National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO) are leading the strike.
A large number of government and private sector banks and ATMs remained closed, creating problems to customers. They say a wage revision is due for the past six months. With branches closed for two days, the ATM machines are being loaded with additional cash, banks claimed.
Private banks like HDFC and ICICI were functional in some places. Bank of Maharashtra MD and CEO Ravindra P Marathe has urged customers to make maximum use of digital banking services for their transactions.
