Naveen announces package for workers

Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a number of incentives and schemes for construction workers under ‘Construction workers package’ at the conference of collectors, Wednesday.
As per the package, a construction worker can avail assistance to buy bicycles after one-year wait against the existing norm of three years. The minimum period needed for registered workers to avail aid is one year to purchase safety equipment, tools and other benefits (in case of natural death) was waived.
The CM also announced daily wage compensation of Rs 200 per day for registered workers undergoing training for skill development. While the maternity benefit for these workers was enhanced from Rs 4000 to Rs 8000, marriage assistance was raised from `20,000 to `25,000, he said.
The chief minister also announced a raise in educational assistance for class XI and XII students which is `5000 per annum. For pursuing BA, B.Sc, B.Com and PG the assistance was enhanced to Rs7,000 per anum. Besides, for ITI and diploma/polytechnic courses, the enhanced aid will be Rs 7,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
The educational assistance for B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Pharm, M.Tech, M.Arch, MCA, MBA, MSc, M.Pharm and other management and catering courses and MBBS was enhanced up to Rs 40,000 per anum.
Disappointed by the poor implementation of these scheme in a few districts, the Chief Minister said Deogarh, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Khurda, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj and Nuapada districts need to improve their performance in the disbursement of such benefits.
Patnaik said, “The government has now allowed registration of Oriya migrant workers engaged in construction work. Collectors were directed to ensure their speedy registration on priority basis and publicise ‘Sramik Sahayata Help Line’ to benefit workers in the eleven districts identified as migration prone.”
