Naveen congratulates ISRO for GSAT-11 launch

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its successful launch of India’s biggest and most powerful communication satellite GSAT-11.

Patnaik’s reaction came after GSAT-11, India’s heaviest and next generation communication satellite with high throughput, was put into orbit by Ariane-5 rocket of Arianespace from French Guiana Wednesday.

Patnaik, in his tweet, said “Congratulate isro for successful launch of India’s biggest and most powerful communication satellite #GSAT11. The high throughput satellite will boost the reach, speeds and capacity of country’s telecom sector enabling connectivity for the unconnected.”

Weighing about 5,854 kg, GSAT-11 is the heaviest satellite built by ISRO so far. It is the forerunner in the series of advanced communication satellites with multi-spot beam antenna coverage over Indian mainland and Islands, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said.

The Bharat Net Project aims to improve the performance of public welfare schemes like e-banking, e-health, e-governance among others.

GSAT-11 will act as a forerunner to all future high throughput communication satellites, said ISRO Chairman K Sivan.

According to ISRO, GSAT-11 will play a vital role in providing broadband services across the country. It will also provide a platform to demonstrate new generation applications.

The satellite will support VSAT terminals and for enterprise network and consumer broadband applications.
