Naveen Patnaik quits as CM, submits resignation to Odisha Governor

Bhubaneswar: Following an unforeseen defeat of the Biju Janata Dal in the Assembly polls, party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik submitted his resignation to Odisha Governor Raghubar Das at Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.

Naveen’s carcade left for Raj Bhavan from a deserted Naveen Niwas at 11:30am and later the five-time Chief Minister reached the Governor’s official residence at 11:35am after which he submitted his resignation.

The Biju Janata Dal faced a shocking defeat at the hands of BJP as the saffron party rose to power in Odisha by winning 78 Assembly seats which comfortably surpasses the magic number of 74.

The BJD was able to secure 51 Assembly seats while the Congress won 14 seats.
