Nayagarh Collector suspends 8 polling officials

Nayagarh: Expressing resentment due to dereliction of duty during the Phase-II elections, Collector of Nayagarh, Thirumala Naik suspended eight polling officials Saturday. Among them were two presiding officers, two sector officers and four polling officers. There were irregularities at the way they performed their duties in booth number 210 and 222 here.

While action was taken against four of them due to cross-pairing of EVMs and VVPATs, four others were suspended for their absence from the booths on polling day.

Earlier Friday, the, Bargarh Collector had suspended six polling officials on similar grounds including three presiding officers and an identical number of sector officers.

The presiding officers are Umashankar Panigrahy of booth number 68, Priyabrata Sahu of booth number 235 and Roshan Sethi of booth number 16. The sector officers are Umashankar Panigrahy, Prashant Sethi and Pradeep Pradhan of the same booths.
