Nayagarh: Police Saturday arrested four persons believed to be contract killers in connection with the alleged murder of a woman in Sarankul area in Nayagarh district.

Allegedly, Sasmita Mohapatra (38) of Suarasahi under Sarankul police limits in the district was earlier murdered and it was then termed as a case of death by suicide. The mystery was cracked after over two weeks of the incident, an official of the police station expressed.
The four arrested contract killers are Jitendra Swain (21), Tofan Mandal (21), Bhagirathi Moharana (45) of Golagaon area and Manoj Pradhan (21) of Sarankul area in Nayagarh district, the police official added.
Sarankul police has seized Rs 20,000 from their possession. During interrogation, the accused confessed their involvement in the crime. They were forwarded to a local court Sunday afternoon.
The woman’s husband identified as Akhi Mohapatra and his paramour were arrested and forwarded to court in connection with the case around two weeks ago. The total number of arrests in the case has reached six.
Akhi was allegedly having an extramarital affair. The newlywed couple was not in cordial terms and often quarreled over the affair, IIC of Sarankul police station Bimal Mallick said.
Notably, Sasmita was found hanging inside her in-law’s house at Suarasahi under mysterious circumstances January 29.
