Nayagarh: Already burdened under Pari death case, police in Nayagarh district are firing from all cylinders to trace three-year-old girl Swati who went missing from Budhipatana village under Sarankul block in Nayagarh district Friday.
Swati was last seen at about 2.00pm Friday while playing near her house. Thereafter, she went missing. After all the efforts of her family to trace her turned futile, they lodged a missing report at Rajsunakhala police outpost.
Meanwhile, two police teams from the outpost and Ranpur Police along with Sarankul SDPO visited the minor girl’s village. The officials interacted with the family members and villagers. While a sniffer dog is being used in the search operation, a fire personnel team is learnt to have been camping at the village and carrying out search operations in ponds, wells etc.
The way Swati went missing has reminded people of Pari going missing and later being found dead. Pari was also playing near her house at Jadupur village when she went missing June 14. Later, June 23, her skeletal remains were recovered from a spot only 50 metres away from the place where she went missing. The case created ripples in the state after the harassed and distressed parents of the victim attempted self-immolation in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly November 24 when the Winter Session was underway.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior IPS officer Arun Bothra is investigating the case.
