Nuagaon: The 22nd death anniversary of Dasia Aja, the legendary man behind the library movement, renowned collector of antique items and prolific writer, was observed Thursday at Udayapur village in the Nuagaon block of Nayagarh district.
A daylong Kirtan and poem recitation by well-known poets were held at the memorial (Peetha) of Dasarathi Pattnaik (affectionately called Dasia Aja) at Udayapur. A ‘Sraddhanjali Sabha’ was also held at the memorial, which was presided over by the Nayagarh Collector and Chairman of the Dasarathi Pattnaik Library Trust.
Attending the programme organised by Deepak Pattnaik, secretary of the Trust and grandson of Dasia Aja, the Collector said that the government would be requested to elevate the library and museum to world standards.
Dasapalla MLA Ramesh Chandra Behera, Nuagaon Block Chairman Antaryami Swain, Nuagaon BDO SS Patel and Nuagaon Samiti Member Ramesh Chandra Pradhan garlanded the statue of Dasia Aja.
A poem recitation programme was organised in the evening under the guidance of poet Sarat Chandra Acharya. Many poets, writers and intellectuals, including popular social activist Pramod Pattnaik, attended the ‘Sraddhanjali Sabha’.
