NDRF to set up RRC in Balasore

Balasore: A regional response centre (RRC) will be set up at Hidinga, 12 km from here, to deal with natural disasters. The centre will assist in providing quick action for natural disasters in Balasore, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj districts.

The first such centre has been set up at Mudali in Cuttack. The second one will be instituted in Balasore.

The foundation stone for the project was laid Monday. The NDRF will invest Rs 6.31 crore for the project.

Three more such centres will be set up in southern and western Odisha, said NDRF DG Satyanarayan Pradhan.

The foundation stone-laying cenermony of the project was attended by Collector K Sudarshan Chakraborty, Superintendent of Police B Jugal Kishore and many other NDRF officials.

It may be noted here that coastal Odisha districts are vulnerable to natural disasters. The four NDRF teams will always be ready at this RRC-led by a Commander.

The RRC will come up over 3.58 acre land. This centre will be helpful in dealing with disasters in northern Odisha.

Other centres will be set up only after the state government provides necessary land to NDRF installations.

Besides, joint exercise of disaster management will be carried out at the centre. Teams from seven nations can join in this exercise, said the Director General of NDRF.

He also added that control rooms at the state, the district and block levels will be set up in grid system.

Training camps will be organised in November and in February, 2020 while over 400 trainers will join the camp, he noted.
