Bhadrak: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel turned out to be godsend for a pregnant woman and two brothers stuck in houses with floodwaters inundating their village, Sholampur, under Bhandaripokhari block in Bhadrak district Thursday night.
After a three-hour-long operation, they rescued them all.
The brother duo was at their house Thursday. As their house is located near Balabhi Ghat, they had been apprehending floods but never thought of facing it the same night. After having their dinner, they were trying to go to bed when they saw floodwaters entering their house.
Seeing the water level increasing up to their waist, they, out of fear, somehow managed to contact Bhandaripokhari block development officer (BDO) over his mobile phone and sought his intervention.
Taking the frantic phone call seriously, the BDO immediately passed the information to the NDRF team stationed in the block. The team swung into action and immediately headed towards the village. When the NDRF team reached the house, the water had already gone up to their neck, it was learnt.
The personnel also rescued a pregnant woman from Jalahari village. She was immediately rushed to a nearby government hospital.
