According to Ayurveda, when we take bath, we shouldn’t pour water on the head first.
After finishing body bath, then at last you should pour water on head. Since, when we pour water first on the head, blood from the entire body rushes to your head, and thus may make you feel dizzy.
Whether you want to apply water on your head or feet first, depends on following factors
1.) Temperature of your body during bath
2.) Temperature of water you are using (hot or cold)
3.) Your Cardiac health
But there is only one general principle that cold temperature causes constriction and hot temperature causes dilatation of blood vessels especially superficial veins.
If we apply cold water firstly on head then the superficial coronary veins will be affected very much and thus it will cause less blood to pass. Thus increased blood pressure may lead to heart attack or more commonly stroke.
But this generally happens in person with Cardiac disorders. So normal persons are not going to be affected much with the sequence of bathing but it is definitely better to wet your feet first.
However, some think that it is simply a misconception in our society. But, we can’t deny that many of the brain strokes or heart attacks take place in bathroom.
If we pour cold water over our head first then it may lead to constriction of some superficial vessels. This may decrease some blood supply to brain but it can’t ever be tremendous for stroke…
