Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered Friday a total of 461 new COVID-19 infections, the biggest spike this year, the I & PR department, government of Odisha said in a tweet. This is the first time in 2021 that the daily infections have breached the 400-mark. The new cases have taken the total tally in the stated to 3,41,772. Among the new infections, 272 cases were in quarantine and the remaining 189 were local contacts.
Nuapada district topped the list of new infections with 86 fresh cases. Khurda and Sundargarh districts are in the second and third positions with 69 and 62 cases respectively.
Other districts that have reported fresh cases are Kalahandi (36), Bargarh (32), Angul (27), Cuttack (22), Sambalpur and Balasore (16 each), Jharsuguda (13), Nabarangpur and Puri (nine each), Jajpur (eight), Rayagada (seven), Ganjam and Bhadrak (five each), Sonepur, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal (four each), Bolangir (three), Kendrapara and Keonjhar (two each) and Nayagarh (one). The State pool stands at 15.
With the addition of the fresh cases, the total number of active cases in the state has gone up to 2,586.
A total of 121 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number recoveries to 3,37,212 in Odisha.
