New teachers take charge in Daringbadi Sevashram

Students of Government High School at Kotgarh were agitated over transfer of five teachers from their school to fill vacancies at Daringbadi Sevashram school.

Daringabdi: Days after a 14-year-old girl delivered a girl at the Sevashram School hostel in Kandhmal district, the hostel inmates and the newly appointed teachers are trying to come to terms with the incident.

Eight new teachers took charge and resumed classes Tuesday. The new teachers are Ramakanta Desinayak, Jyotibala Satapathy, Narendra Behera, Narayan Mishra, Krupanidhi Nayak, Surath Chandra Patra, Santanu Kumar Sahu and Samir Kumar Nayak. Another teacher is expected to join, said the authorities of the tribal residential school.

The district administration transferred all the 14 teachers and suspended the headmistress and four other teachers. Headmistress Jhunurani Pradhan of Kanyashram was posted as the new headmistress.

But the transfer of teachers created tension among students of the Government High School in Kotgarh. They blocked the road demanding cancellation of the transfer of five teachers from their school to Sevashram till the HSC examination ends as that will affect their studies.

They initially refused to withdraw their protest, but relented after the Collector promised to bring back two of their teachers.

The district administration had transferred eight teachers of the Sevashram School to Kotgarh and five teachers from the high school were transferred to the Sevashram School.

Headmistress Jhunurani said she has not yet received full charge and is facing problems in discharging duties at the school. She said she has been trying to tackle the problems and earn a good name for the school.

Meanwhile, the police intensified investigations into the rape. A police team led by Baliguda SDPO Nitin Kushalkar, comprising Daringbadi IIC Alekh Gardia, IO Chandrika Swain visited the school after it reopened Tuesday.

The minor survivor gave birth to a girl in the wee hours of Sunday. But the newborn survived only for a few hours and died late Sunday night. The accused youth, Shraban Pradhan alias Rinku, was arrested.
