Jeypore: The body of a newborn girl child was found on the roadside of Jeypore-Visakhapatnam road at Tusuba Chhak under Lamtaput block of Koraput district Wednesday.
The matter came to light after locals spotted the body of the infant near the road Wednesday morning.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started a probe into the matter.
Cops have recovered the body and sent it for postmortem. “The exact cause of death will only be known after we receive the autopsy report,” said the local police.
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the incident, locals have said that such an incident has occurred for the first time in the locality. They suspect that someone could have abandoned the infant on the road after delivery owing to her gender. They demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and tough action against the culprit.
