Talcher: A newborn girl was rescued from a brick kiln at Ekgharakia village under Samal police limits in Angul district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The baby was rescued by some villagers. She was immediately rushed to the sub-divisional hospital here in a 108 ambulance.
According to locals, some villagers were passing by the kiln in the morning when then heard the baby crying. They immediately rushed to the spot and found the newly born baby under a tree. Though chances were high that ants or stray dogs could have harmed the baby, nothing such had happened, they added.
Soon people gathered at the spot and called up for a 108 ambulance. Later, 108 staff with the help of two women working at the brick kiln took the baby to the hospital.
Villagers were of the opinion that someone had left her after her birth, since she was a girl child. Some others suggested that she could have been the child of an unwed mother who might have deserted her fearing social stigma.
The baby is out of danger, it was learnt.
