Bhadrak: A newly married couple allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Sanpur village under Dhamnagar police station in Bhadrak district Thursday night.
The incident took place at around 1 am. The neighbours who spotted them in critical condition rushed them two to Dhamnagar hospital and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital after their condition deteriorated. But, they succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to locals, one Dharmendra Tripathy, son of Satyaranjan Tripathy of Sanpur village had married with Purnima Das, daughter of Nilamani Das hailing from Banki area in Cuttack district May 9 this year. However, there were frequent quarrels between both the families over some issues. This could be the reason behind their extreme step.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of unnatural death and investigating into the matter. The bodies have been sent for postmortem.
