Newlywed woman burnt to death

Bhadrak: A newlywed woman was killed after a portion of the thatched roof which was in flames fell on her at Ugalpur Majhi Sahi on the outskirts of this town, Sunday. The deceased was identified as Pankajini Tudu, 22, wife of Durga Charan Tudu.

Sources said, a fire broke out at Durga’s house and it quickly engulfed the entire house. Seeing the house on fire, neighbours came to his rescue. When they were taking some articles out of the house, a portion of the burning roof fell on Pankajini causing her grievous burns which led to her death.

A fire fighting team reached the spot and doused the fire. However, by then, it had gutted eight rooms of the three families staying in it. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, many said that short circuit may have caused the accident.

Bhadrak rural police handed over Pankajini’s body to her family members after post-mortem. On being informed, Bhadrak tehsildar Pradeep Sahu visited the spot.

Pankijini, whose parents live at Nuasahi in Balasore district, had married Durga Charan, April 24. It was indeed a tragic incident as she died only 18 days after her marriage.
