Bhadrak: A newlywed woman died after a portion of her thatched roof which was in flames fell on her at Ugalpur MajhiSahi on the outskirts of the town, Sunday.The deceased was identified as Pankajini Tudu, 22, wife of Durga Charan Tudu.

Sources said, a fire broke out at Durga’s house and it quickly spread to the whole house. Seeing the house in blaze, neighbours came to his rescue. When they were taking some furniture out of the house, a portion of the burning roof fell on Pankajini causing her grievous burns which led to her death.

Fire brigade personnel reached the spot and doused the fire. However, by then, eight rooms of the house had been destroyed. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, many said an electric short-circuit might have caused the accident.

Bhadrak rural police have handed over Pankajini’s body to her relatives after post-mortem. On being informed,Bhadrak tehsildar Pradeep Sahu visited the spot.

Pankijini, whose parents live at Nuasahi in Balasore district, had married Durga Charan, April 24. It was indeed a tragic incident as she died only 18 days after her wedding.
