Newlywed woman’s body recovered, hubby held

Birmaharajpur, Sept 2: Police Tuesday recovered a body of a newlywed woman in hanging condition from Champamal village here in Sonepur district. The deceased Parbati Moharana (23), daughter of Brajabihari Moharana of Ghodaghat of Sonepur town married Baman Moharana (35) of the village four months ago.
Alleging it a case of dowry related murder, Parbati’s family lodged a complaint with the local police. Based on the complaint, the police arrested Baman under several sections of IPC and started an investigation under the supervision of sub-divisional police officer Prasanna Kumar Biswal. The body was sent for post-mortem while the dowry items were handed over to the family of the deceased, the police said.
According to reports, all the demands of Baman’s family were fulfilled during the marriage April 23. However, the family was not happy with the dowry given to them during marriage tortured Parbati physically and mentally demanding Rs 50,000 and a motorcycle. Her elder brother Balakrushna Maharana along with his wife came to Champamala Monday to settle the issue but they were allegedly threatened by Baman’s family members.
The family of the accused informed the police Tuesday about Parbati’s death. On being informed by the police, Parbati’s brother reached Champamal and lodged a complaint at the police station stating she was murdered in a planned manner. IIC Hemant Rao and other officials seized the body.
