Kendrapara: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued conditional summons to the Koraput District Collector for his failure in submitting the requisite Action Taken Report (ATR) in the violation of human rights of one Guru Pangi.
The NHRC, acting on a petition filed by Human Rights Activist Radhakanta Tripathy, passed the order Thursday.
Tripathy in his petition alleged that due to the failure and negligence of revenue authorities and district administration of Koraput, the correction of records under PMAY and BKY was not done for which the victim Guru Pangi was deprived of the benefits of various social welfare schemes of the Odisha government.
The commission took cognizance of the matter March 24, 2023, and had asked for an ATR on the aforesaid issue within four weeks. However, no intimation was made in this regard to the commission in the issue for which a reminder was also served March 12, 2023.
As the district administration failed to submit the requisite document within stipulated time period, the commission has issued conditional summons to the District Magistrate, u/s 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, to appear in person before the Commission August 31 next along with requisite report. In case the requisite report is received in the Commission on or before 24.08.2023, his personal appearance shall stand dispensed with.
