Bhubaneswar, Dec 7: The National Human Rights Commission has directed the state government to submit a report on an incident in which a tribal girl was allegedly sexually abused by her school headmaster in Kolar village near Koraput.
The NHRC move comes after a human rights activist Subash Mohapatra raised the matter before the commission. Mohapatra said the matter was reported to the district collector and the law enforcement agencies but no action was taken against the headmaster. Abhimanyu Mohanty.
“Despite having details of the matter, the district welfare officer has not informed the magistrate or the police,” he said.
According to Mohapatra’s complaint, the tribal girl, a student of the government-run Sevashram School in Kolar village, was illegally confined and sexually abused by her headmaster on September 26, 2013. “The girl was illegally confined in the official residence of the headmaster,” the complaint said.
The commission has issued a notice to the commissioner-cum-secretary (ST & SC development department, government of Orissa), Khurda district magistrate and superintendent of police to submit a report in six weeks.
