Jagatsinghpur: Three days after recovery of the body of 24 years old Niharika Patra alias Rupali from Biluakhai riverbed near Nuapari village under Biridi police limits in this district, her fiancé Kishore Chandra Anchal, who had since been missing, surrendered before the police Friday.
The police are interrogating Kishore at an unknown destination to get details as to what prompted him to kill Niharika, who was a nurse by profession. The body of Niharika was found Tuesday morning with the hands and legs tied in a gunny sack. Her face was damaged beyond recognition.
Niharika’s father Gagan Patra and mother Pratima Patra, residents of Bhingarpur village under Balianta police limits in Khurda district had identified the body as that of their daughter’s, from the dress, body shape and a cotton band tied around her left wrist.
The deceased’s family sources said that Niharika’s marriage with Kishore had already been fixed. However, it got delayed as Kishore’s residence did not have sufficient rooms. A decision had been taken to solemnise the marriage after completion of two more rooms. So, Niharika’s sudden murder has left many questions unanswered.
Niharika was last seen with Kishore when he had picked her up from the Cuttack-based nursing home where she was working, September 8. However, when she did not turn up for work, the next day, the nursing home authorities lodged a complaint with the Madhupatna police station.
With the surrender of Kishore, the prime suspect, local people and bereaved family members are hopeful that the mystery regarding Niharika’s death would soon be cracked.
