Keonjhar: Nikhahat Yasmin, a resident of Maguragadia in Keonjhar, is an epitome of empowerment. As her husband’s income was not sufficient, she supplements her family’s income by running a tailoring-cum-shoe shop.
She stays with her husband and two sons in a rented house. She originally belongs to Raisuan and married at Champua 14 years ago.
She said she came to Keonjhar six years ago and started the business to supplement her family income and fund the education of her kids.
Her husband works at a tyre retreading shop, but his income was not sufficient. The couple earns around Rs 6,000 to 7,000 a month, and has no land. Being landless, they could not get any housing loan.
Yasmin also trains other women in tailoring so that they can be self-sufficient. She has only one sewing machine.
“If I get a loan, I can train more women. Tailoring has helped me to earn something,” she added.
