Bhuban: Remembering the ultimate sacrifice of boat boy and child martyr Baji Rout (Bajia) at the age of 12, then an active member of the Banar Sena, natives of Nilakanthapur village near here are preparing to pay their heartfelt homage to Bajia October 11.
In this connection, a meeting of Baji Sena was held Friday on the premises of a local club. Advisor of the Sena Lalit Behera dwelt upon the basic purpose behind the formation of the outfit.
On the occasion of this martyr’s day, it was decided to conduct school level essay, song, dance, mural art, drawing competitions at Sri Aurobindo Integral School premises. The Baji Sena has also chalked out programmes for this auspicious day to instill a sense of patriotism in schoolchildren.
Moreover, in order to commemorate his martyrdom, a marathon race from Palamandap to the cenotaph of Baji Rout will be conducted and prizes will be distributed to winning children.
Baji Rout was shot dead by the British police as he refused to ferry them across the Brahmani river on the night of 11 October 1938 at Nilakanthapur Ghat under Bhuban block in Dhenkanal district.
