Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA from Nilgiri, Sukanta Nayak joined the quitting spree Friday and resigned from the primary membership of the party. He informed party supremo Naveen Patnaik of his decision through a letter.
The sitting MLA expressed his displeasure in the letter about the party activities and alleged he was being harassed and conspiracies were being hatched against him by other leaders. With Nayak’s quitting, the number of MPs and MLAs and other leaders leaving the party ahead of the election has increased manifold.
In his letter to the CM, Nayak said, “A conspiracy has been hatched which was exhibited during the joining ceremony of a person ignoring me who had been defeated during the last 2014 elections by a margin of 13,000 votes. To add to my disadvantage the mental torture meted out to me by the district BJD president is becoming unbearable day by day.”
Nayak stated that he has been deeply affected by the developments. “I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the party which may kindly be accepted.”
Few days ago, BJP candidate (2014) Sushama Biswal had joined the BJD. Sources said BJD is planning to nominate Biswal from the Assembly seat which Nayak had won in 2014. This may have led to his resignation from the BJD.
