Nilsu emerges champion

Puri, August 30: Nilsu Patnaik of DAV Public School, Cuttack clinched the title of the IMT All Orissa Open School Chess Championship, which concluded here Sunday. Nilsu took the top honours with 8.5 points.

Om Mishra of ODM Public School, Bhubaneswar secured the second position with eight points. Yasoman Patro of St. Xavier’s High School, Puri finished third with seven points in his kitty. Sarthak Debata of Delhi Public School, Rourkela and Ankush Sahoo of St. Xavier’s High School bagged the fourth and fifth positions respectively. Both were tied at 6.5 points each, but their positions were decided on the basis of tie-breaker points.

U 16 (Girls’) Bikash Kumar Lenka; U-16 (Boys’) Divyashrita Swain; U-7 (Boys’) Stitaprangya Sahoo; U-9 (Girls’) Suhana Jena; U-9 (Boys’) Shreyash Subham Patnaik;  U-11 (Girls’) Payal Das; U-11 (Boys’) Siddharth Mishra.

Arnabha triumphs

Arnabha Acharya emerged champion of the Silk City Students’ Chess Championship, which concluded at Berhampur, Sunday. Arnabha clinched the title with seven points. Swagata Panda finished runner-up by garnering six points. Dibya Sahu secured the third position with the same number of points.

Players feted

Rajveer B Pal, Priyans Das, Yasita Rout and Shreeyans Das were felicitated by IS Chess Centre in Cuttack upon their return to the city after a successful performance in the National U-7 Chess Championship at Chennai. Yasita and Priyans finished runners-up in the girls’ and the open category of the tournament respectively.
