Bhubaneswar: Following the party’s debacle in the recently concluded elections, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik is not interested to continue in his post as state unit president.
Speaking to the media here Monday, Niranjan said he had resigned from the post on very day the general election results were announced.
“I had sent my resignation to the party high command on the day the results of the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Odisha were announced. But the party supremo is yet to accept my resignation,” he said.
In the meantime, during his trip to New Delhi on three occasions, he has requested the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president to accept his resignation. Last Sunday too the Congress leader has requested the AICC to accept his resignation.
However, he said, no communication has been given by the AICC so far in this matter. After sorting out its own problem over appointment of the party president, the AICC would take a decision about restructuring the state units, sources said.
Commenting on abrogation of Article 370, Niranjan said the manner in which the Centre carried out its decision was not correct. “The saffron party has not informed the people as to why Article 370 was enforced on the state of Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, it has launched a vilification campaign against the Gandhi and Nehru families in an attempt to win the trust of the people,” he added.
