Rourkela: Police recovered bodies of an assistant professor of National Institute of Technology (NIT) and his wife under mysterious circumstances from NIT staff quarters here Saturday morning.
Cops have identified the bodies as those of 45 years old R. Jayabalan and his wife Malini. They belong to Erode district in Tamilnadu.
According to a source, the quarters of the couple in the NIT campus premises was closed since August 12. Nearby families suspected something unusual and alerted the security-in-charge who in turn informed the sector-III police after a foul odour started emanating from the closed house.
The cops broke open the door and found the bodies lying on the ground.
Jayabalan worked as an assistant professor of Life Sciences Department and Malini as a dietician at a private hospital. They were married for nine years. Prima facie, it appears to be case of suicide. That said, the cops are not taking any chances with the investigation.
“It will be too early to say what caused the deaths. However, we have started an investigation and are considering all possible angles. The postmortem report would provide us with further clarity,” said a police official.
