No ambulance, pregnant woman carried on stretcher

Nayagarh: In another incident of poor medical services in rural areas, a pregnant woman had to be carried on a stretcher for one km from Kanadi village under Daspalla block in this district as ambulance couldn’t reach her due to absence of a motorable road to the village.

The woman was shifted to a motorable place where she delivered a baby boy. The woman, Sabita Jani, reportedly delivered a baby boy in the ambulance while being shifted to Daspalla community health centre (CHC).

As per reports, Sabita complained of labour pain Friday following which her family after consulting the ASHA called a 108 ambulance. However, the vehicle had to be stationed about one km away from the village due to absence of a motorable road. With no other option, the ASHA with the help of the ambulance crew and Sabita’s family members carried the woman on a stretcher to the ambulance.

Just in a few minutes, Sabita delivered a baby boy inside the ambulance even before she could be taken to the hospital. Later, both Sabita and her child were shifted to Daspalla while their condition is stated to be normal.
