No compensation for rain-affected: CMC

Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has no plan to compensate people who had suffered losses due to unprecedented rain-induced waterlogging in the city in July.
This was revealed by CMC commissioner Bikash Chandra Mohapatra recently. Moreover, the civic body has not initiated any survey to estimate the damage caused by the waterlogging.
At least 50,000 people in the Silver City were affected by the waterlogging during the low pressure-triggered rain in July. The rainwater had damaged household goods of many families. The CMC commissioner had then promised to take steps for providing compensation to the affected people when opposition Congress and BJP raised demand in this regard.
Besides, the district Collector had asked the CMC to submit a report on the damage caused by the rainwater. “The CMC did not take any step to estimate damage caused by the waterlogging and submit a report to the district Collector. Now, they are saying that they have no plan to compensate the affected people. They have cheated the common people,” alleged Congress corporator Giribala Behera.
