No dining hall, playground for students

Koraput: A shortage of teachers and classrooms has been reported from some schools in Koraput districts. A case in point is Manbar Upgraded Upper Primary School which lacks a dining hall and a playground.

More than 350 students study in the school between Class I and Class X while 110 of them reside in the school hostel. However, the hostel has no dining hall for the inmates. Boarders were seen having their food on the school varenda and other places.

Similarly, there is no playground for students though a PET has been appointed for the school. Earlier, the students have grabbed awards in block and district level school sports meets, but they cannot continue practices as they have no space to play.

When contacted, headmistress Sanjukta Patnaik said lack of space has resulted in blunting of extra-curricular activities of students. The authorities have been informed in this regard, she added.

Earlier, Orissa POST reported on shortage of classrooms at Baunsaput Ashram School in Bandhugaon block in the district, where the students of eight classes were taught in three classrooms.  Similarly, Bharati primary school at Chipakur panchayat under Baipariguda block had only two teachers for 50 students.
