Jhumpura: The Central government claims that it has done well in rural electrification, but the people of Balibandh panchayat in the Jhumpura block of Keonjhar district are in darkness as they do not have electricity.
After repeated complaints, authorities of power distribution company North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Ltd (NESCO) put up poles and drew wires in wards 9 and 12, but did not supply electricity, villagers said.
Upset by the neglect, the villagers approached a NESCO Engineer. But nothing is being done to provide them power, they added. They also said that BPL families are being given electricity at subsidised rates under certain schemes.
A group of villagers took up the issue with the Jhumpura block development officer (BDO) Thursday. The area comes under the Rimuli NESCO section.
NESCO Engineer Dr Murmu said that farmlands are posing problems in supplying electricity to the village.
“As the people opposed our work the contractor abandoned it. Power will be supplied to the village if the issue is settled,” the power distribution company’s engineer explained.
Jhumpura BDO Jayshree Beura said that steps are being taken to supply electricity to the village.
