No fire safety measures taken in Khurda hospital

Khurda : Khurda district headquarters hospital is a glaring example of neglect and the infrastructure needs much to be desired at a time when both the Centre and state governments are focusing on providing healthcare coverage to people.

The hospital not only lacks minimum facilities like a working ultrasound machine and ECG machines, the fire safety equipment in the hospital are outdated thus posing a great threat. Also stray dogs in the hospital premises are a common sight. People from different districts such as Begunia, Banpur, Khurda and Jatni are dependent on the hospital, the lack of amenities in the hospital left them in distress.

“There is no security for the hundreds of patients and their relatives who visit the hospital everyday as there is no fire safety system in place. Moreover, the ultrasound department is also closed,” said Abhiram Barisal, a relative of a patient.

The patients and relatives have questioned about fire safety measures at the hospital as loose electric wires raise concern for a short circuit.

Khurda CDMO, Bijay Kumar Mohapatra said, “I have issued instructions to provide required equipment and ensure fire-safety measures are put in place. We are trying to bring necessary changes with the limited resources available with us.”
