‘No helmet, no petrol’ for riders in Bhanjanagar from Sept 1

Bhanjanagar: Two-wheeler riders will not be able to buy petrol in Bhanjanagar town of Ganjam district from September 1 unless they wear helmets, the district administration has said.

A meeting in this context held at sub-collector’s office Wednesday decided to launch an awareness campaign starting September 1, 2019 to minimise the loss of life and property in road mishaps.

The police will implement the campaign with assistance from petrol pump owners across the town, in which the number of the motorcycle without helmet will be sent to RTO office and an e-challan will be issued in the name of the owner.

Apprehending law and order issues, the petrol outlets will also be kept under observation to ensure proper implementation of the law. CCTV cameras have also been installed at fuel stations.

This apart, in an effort to ensure road safety, cops have been asked to keep a strict vigil on drunk drivers and arrest them. Further, the district administration has planned to restrict construction of illegal road humps to minimize accidents, sub-collector Rajendra Kumar Minj said.
