Sambalpur: A bride called off her marriage in Odisha’s Sambalpur district after the groom’s men created a ruckus after the mutton dish made for them fell short during the wedding day feast. They allegedly demanded ‘no mutton, no marriage’ despite her father’s repeated pleadings infuriating her.

The incident took place at the bride’s place at Dhama village in Sambalpur district.

According to a source, the marriage was scheduled for Sunday. The groom’s men reached the bride’s place with pomp and gaiety.

Things went south when mutton fell short during the feast. The bride’s side was unable to serve mutton to nearly eight of groom’s men as it was late. On the other hand, the groom’s men were adamant about having mutton and argued with the bride’s father about mismanagement, the source added.

Following the rowdy behaviour of the groom and his relatives, the bride decided to call off the wedding.

The woman said, “My father even bowed down and pleaded before them, but they remained unmoved. It seemed wrong to me and I told them to leave the place without wedding.”

Another similar yet unrelated incident grabbed headlines this month after a bride left her in-laws’ home after her husband demanded a two-wheeler in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
