Bhubaneswar: Odisha cannot display its tableau at this year’s Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
An expert committee of Union Defence Ministry has not given its approval to the tableau designs sent by the state government for the parade, sources said.
According to sources, the Defence Ministry has asked states to design tableaus on the theme of ‘Gandhi connect’. Accordingly, the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department of the state government had sent five tableau designs on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and activities. However, all these designs failed to impress the expert committee.
It is learnt that the expert committee has given its nod to the tableau designs of 14 states and Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and Kerala have not received approval for the tableaus, sources added.
It may be mentioned here that last year too Odisha could not display its tableau in the Republic Day parade as the design submitted by the state government did not receive the approval from the expert committee.
