Jeypore: Water supply to Kolab Reservoir in Koraput district has been stopped to facilitate repair of electricity generation unit. This may affect power generation here till December 8.
According to sources, water was cleared from Sitaguda dam and the main canal gate’s leak was plugged. Consequently, drinking water supply to Jeypore town was stopped Sunday.
Similarly, power supply to the town was interrupted for 90 minutes Monday. Power generation was resumed at Kolab Hydro Electricity Project later.
The town needs 14 million litres of water daily. Pumping motors would work for only 12 hours instead of the usual 18 hours every day, and water would be supplied for three to four hours instead of the usual six hours.
However, there would be no drinking water crisis for 20 to 22 days, as water has been stored at the Sitaguda Dam, said Public Health Department assistant executive Chiranjib Mahali.
Since Kharif harvest has started in the district, water would be released to farms through canals by December-end for the Rabi crop, said irrigation department assistant engineer Rajnikant Mishra.
