Semiliguda: Although Odisha has nearly recovered from cyclone Titli, the village of Malidusra in Semiliguda block of Koraput district has not got back its power supply which was damaged by the cyclonic storm Hudhud in 2014.
Villagers like chief Ghansyam Nayak, Damodar Nayak, Jayram Hantal, Trinath Hantal, Jagannath Hntal, Maheswar Khilo, Kamalu Pangi, Harishcnadra Khilo and Madan Hantal had met the Semiliguda block Chairman and the Potangi MLA and told them about the problem.
Malidusra has 300 families, including 100 BPL families. They mostly depend on cultivating vegetables.
The villagers said the cyclonic storm Hudhud had uprooted electricity supply poles. Since then the village is in darkness even though they approached the administration many times.
The villagers said they had written to the local junior engineer twice about the problem, but no action was taken.
The villagers gheraoed the Executive Engineer during the Governor’s visit to Kudugaon last month. The EE then asked them for two weeks to repair the damaged electricity supply lines, but nothing was done.
The villagers said they are unable to irrigate their vegetable farms, as there is no electricity to run lift irrigation pump sets.
A 60 KW transformer was installed in the village, but it has failed to meet the needs of the villagers.
The villagers said they would gherao the junior engineer’s office if no action is taken to restore power supply.
