Banarpal: Village Agricultural Workers (VAW) of the Department of Agriculture said that they are facing many problems in the Baranpala block of Angul district as they have not been given residential accommodation.
There is no agriculture office in the block. So they are forced to stay in rented houses and continue field work.
VAWs provide information about government facilities and agriculture to farmers. When high yielding seeds and farm equipment are available with the Department, VAWs inform farmers about that.
Sources said the workers were given quarters in villages like Kulad, Bauligad, Kandasar and Jarasing but the quarters are neglected by the administration.
Baranpala block Agriculture Department Extension Officer Sumant Nayak said the government had built quarters for workers in some places, but they are in very bad shape.
VAWs give valuable tips to farmers on agriculture and use of modern farm equipment. But due to these problems they are facing difficulties in giving information to farmers in the block.
The government is planning a new Krushi Paramarsha Kendra in the block. In future, VAWs will work from that office and farmers can get information from them.
