Bhubaneswar: The state government Thursday decided not to conduct student union elections in universities and degree colleges this year in the state.
An order issued by the government said student union elections shall not be conducted in state universities and degree colleges coming under the administrative control of the Higher Education department.
In a communication to the university Vice Chancellors and principals of all government degree college heads and aided non-government colleges, Higher Education secretary Saswat Mishra asked them to make an alternative arrangement of nominating the students representatives to various bodies.
He said an alternative procedure for nominating students representatives to various bodies of universities and colleges where student representation is required shall be prescribed subsequently.
The letter said in the larger interest of the students’ community it has been decided by the state government not to conduct elections in the state universities and degree colleges coming under the administrative control of Higher Education department.
