Bhawanipatna: An anganwadi centre in Takarla village under Narla block of Kalahandi district has been functioning in ramshackle conditions, a source said Thursday.
According to the source, the children have to attend their classes and co-curricular activities in a precarious condition each day as the anganwadi centre has not been renovated for a long time.
Local Panchayat Samiti member Buirani Rout alleged that pieces of cement often fall from the roof of the anganwadi centre which poses a threat to the students’ lives.
Rout further informed that children do not have access to clean drinking water as a pump set installed in the centre’s tubewell has been lying damaged for more than the last two months. Rout said that there is no toilet facility at the centre.
“Some miscreants regularly drink alcohol and throw remnant pouches inside the centre premises as there is no security fence here,” Rout added.
Women self-help groups and samiti members from the village have repeatedly complained to the local Sarpanch and the block administration about the deteriorating condition of the anaganwadi centre. However, nobody paid heed to their concerns.
The villagers have appealed the local BDO and Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) to resolve the issues at the earliest.
