Koksara: Torrential rains that have lashed Kalahandi district in the past two-three days have left many areas inundated. It has also caused extensive damage to property in the region. Houses in tribal pockets have been damaged substantially due to strong winds and heavy rains. People are living in a very precarious condition.
Most of the roads in the district have been submerged with knee-deep water. This has created traffic woes and one can see many vehicles stranded on the roads for hours.
The scene is quite similar for Makaranda Bishi of Pipalijhapar village under Gotamunda panchayat at Koksara block. Most of the houses are submerged as the rains show no signs of abetting. People in the area are facing a harrowing time following flood-like situation.
When asked, Block Development Officer (BDO) Basant Kumar Sethi said that compensation will be provided to the affected people. However, compensation will depend on the report provided by the Revenue Inspector (RI) at Tehsil’s office.
