Cuttack:  Noted Odia music director Jalal Adeni passed away due to cardiac arrest at his residence in Pension Lane near Buxi Bazar in Cuttack Monday morning. He was 85.

People from the film fraternity, friends and music lovers thronged his residence to pay their last tributes. Some took to social media to pay their condolences.

Born June 23, 1936, Adeni had an inclination towards acting and singing from his childhood days. He did his schooling from Government Queen Mission High Secondary School in Berhampur and Plus II from Khallikote College. After graduating from Jadavpur Engineering College, he joined the Railways.  But he could not continue for long. He resigned from his job and dedicated his life to make his passion his profession.

Besides composing music, he tried his hands at filmmaking. He gave a break to noted playwright Bijay Mishra in his film ‘Kie Bujhiba’. But due to some problems, the film had to be left mid way.

He repeated the songs of ‘Kie Bujhiba’ in his second film ‘Anutap’. One of its songs ‘Nida Bhara Rati’ touched cine lovers’ hearts and Adeni became famous overnight.

Adeni was also responsible for introducing lyricist Mohammad Nizam and Odia composer and singer Tansen Singh to the Odia film industry.

Nizam had penned all the four songs of his film ‘Anutap’. Nirmala Mishra lent her voice in classic ‘Nida Bhara Rati’. Tansen Singh and Nirmala Mishra’s ‘Mun Tumo Ku Bhala Pae’ and Tansen Singh’s solo ‘Nupura Kanhiki Mun Bandhili’ were also big hits and they have still been plucking the heartstrings of music lovers.

He will be remembered for his work in films like ‘Hira Moti Manika’, ‘Pujarini’ and ‘Basanti Apa’.
