Notorious criminal held

Berhampur: Acting on a tip-off, the town police arrested a notorious criminal involved in several crimes in the area here in Ganjam district.

He was produced in court and later remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea. He has been identified as Bhagban Sethy alias Kalia (22) of Laxminrusingh Sahi Lane-4 under Big Baazar police limits.

Police also seized 53.30 gram of gold ornaments and 481.87 gram silver from his possession. On the other hand, police detained three minor boys for helping Kalia.

They were produced before a juvenile court and later sent to a rehabilitation home, additional SP Prabhat Routray said before media persons at a press meet.

According to sources, Kalia had looted 500 gram silver, Rs 1.5 lakh cash and 15 gram gold from the house of a local businessman Rajendra Padhi of Dharmanagar First Lane.

Under suspect, police detained Kalia while he was wandering around in Giri market in a conspicuous manner. During interrogation, he confessed of the crime.

Similarly, he had looted Rs 3,000 from AV Raghunath Clinic store a few days back. He also has confessed to have committed several loots.

Along with the additional SP, probationer DSP Santa Nutan Samad and Town police IIC Nihar Ranjan Pradhan were also present at the holding.
