Notorious criminal Sheikh Nadeem injured in police encounter, arrested

Kendrapara: Sheikh Nadeem (30), a notorious inter-state criminal was rendered critical after he sustained bullet injuries on his left leg during an encounter with the police in the wee hours of Saturday at Arjunpur square under Patkura police limits in this district.  He is a resident of Krushnanandapur village under Tirtol police limits in Jagatsinghpur district. It was however, the police, who rescued him and took him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) following the exchange of fire.

After preliminary treatment, he was referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated Saturday morning.

The cops have seized a handgun, a numberless scooter and a mobile phone from his possession.

Nadeem has two complaints lodged against him at Patkura police station. Overall, he has more than 35 cases in various police stations across Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar among others.

A special team had been formed to nab him. Acting on a tip-off about his whereabouts, a special squad of the police conducted a raid at the hideout of the criminal at around 4.00am.  Spotting the cops, Nadeem opened fire at them after which the police retaliated which led to the criminal’s injury.
