NOU students’ union prez forced to do sit-ups

Baripada: The president of the students’ union of North Orissa University (NOU), Tusar Kumar Nayak, Tuesday accused former minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) observer of Mayurbhanj district, Arun Kumar Sahu, of having forced him to do sit-ups when the latter met him in the circuit house. However, Sahu denied the allegations.

According to reports, Tushar along with a former student union president met Sahu Tuesday morning at the circuit house. When Tushar raised issue of irregularities and students’ agitations, Sahu allegedly got irritated and abused him.

“The observer told me that if these things had happened in other universities, students would have created troubles. You people are good for nothings,” Tushar alleged.

Then, Sahu threw his cell phone and asked him to do sit-ups, Tushar alleged, adding that he had to do sit-ups 70 times.

He added that district youth BJD president Jitendra Mohanty, district executive president Debasish Mohanty, chairperson of the special development council Debashish Marandi were present at the scene, but they did not oppose Sahu’s act.

However, these leaders refused to say anything about the issue.

The incident came to the fore when Tushar made a posting about the matter on social media. He also stated that after such incident, he has decided to leave BJD. Various students’ unions have condemned the act of Sahu.
