Bhadrak: Public voice is getting louder by the day over the demand for a government medical college in Bhadrak. Several outfits, which earlier launched a signature campaign to press for their demand, have now launched an awareness vehicle for collecting signatures of people from various parts of the district.
These outfits have taken up this issue particularly after FM Medical College and Hospital was inaugurated in Balasore recently.
The ‘Signature Rath’ was launched here Tuesday. Some beggars, rickshaw pullers and daily wagers, who used to thong Bant bridge, kick-started the ‘rath’.
The activists said that the ‘rath’ will travel across the district to collect signatures of people from all walks of life and shape up a movement against the state and Central governments, which have neglected the cause of a government medical college in the district.
Meanwhile, over 5,000 people have already put their signatures on flex boards that would be submitted to the state and Central government authorities to press the demand.
The need for a medical college for Bhadrak has been neglected by the state and central governments, they noted, adding that the drive will build up pressure on the governments to set up a medical college here.
They asserted that over 30 lakh people from various parts of Balasore, Kendrapara, Jajpur and Keonjhar will depend on the Medical College and Hospital if it is set up in Bhadrak.
The signature campaign was initiated by over 30 organizations who have already submitted a memorandum to the prime Minister, Union Health Minister, and the Chief Minister was submitted through the ADM.
The orgaisations takin up this campaign included Rotary Club, Sahid Bhagat Sena, Nagarika Samaj, UD Group, Gopabandhu Foundation, Tyagbhumi Sammelan, Netaji Subash Bahini, Tihidi Yuba Manch, Yuba Bahini, Biju Smruti Committee, Rotary Club, Jagrat Sena and Utsarga.
