Author Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Devdas has time and again inspired Hindi filmmakers. The novel has been adopted on screen on several occasions and every time it has been received well by the audience. Be it KL Saigal’s 1936 version or Bimal Roy’s 1955 classic, starring Dilip Kumar, or the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus , with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, Devdas has never failed to impress filmgoers.
Interestingly, Devdas has also been made in a number of regional languages over the years. And now the noble will be adopted on screen in Odia. If everything falls into place, Nayaka Ra Naa Devdas, will hit screens August 9. The film stars Asit in the titular role, with actresses Anu Choudhury and Bhoomika Dash playing Chandramukhi and Paro, respectively.
This is the ninth time Devdas is being made into a film in India. Produced by Anjaneya Media, Nayaka Ra Naa Debdas is being made on a broad canvas and will be directed by Mrutyunjaya Sahoo (Bapi). Actors Bijay Mohanty, Bobby Mishra, Pintu Nanda and Smita Mohanty will also be seen playing important characters in the film. The film’s music has been composed by Baidyanath Das, while the lyrics have been written by Arun Mantri and Nirmal Nayak.
The first look of film was revealed in the presence of the film’s cast recently.
