Nuapada Anganwadi worker gets accolades for selfless service

Nuapada: Anganwadi worker Shantilata Majhi (60) of Dhobighat under Boden block in Nuapada district has earned laurels for her selfless service.

Majhi Friday received accolades from the Principal Secretary of Women and Child Development department Anu Garg for working tirelessly and providing service to people even during the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

Garg said that Majhi has become an example for all those who are working as frontline warriors to banish the deadly disease from the state. Even at this age, Majhi travels miles to distribute ration to the beneficiaries under Boden block in Nuapada district. She is being helped by her grandson.

She has four sons and three daughters. Her husband died long ago. She has been working as an Aganwadi worker since 1986 and has been performing her duty selflessly.

Her village has 56 families. The Anganwadi centre where she works has registered 22 children, 5 pregnant women and 10 postnatal.

She traverses the whole area on foot and carries out awareness programmes initiated by the government from time to time. Majhi also undertakes vaccination and other programmes for the betterment of children and expectant mothers in Boden block.
